At the City of Port Lincoln Council, we strive to ensure that every adoption is a perfect match, providing our animals with loving forever homes. Our adoption process is designed to ensure the well-being and happiness of both the animals and their adoptive families.
Here's how it works:
1. Expression of Interest
Prospective adopters begin by filling out a Dog Adoption – Expression of Interest Form. This form helps us understand a little bit about you, your lifestyle, and experience, allowing us to evaluate if the dog will be a suitable companion.
2. Meet and Greet
Once your enquiry is reviewed and assessed, we arrange a meet and greet with the dog you're interested in. This gives you an opportunity to interact with the dog and determine if there's a connection.
3. Home Visit
We may conduct a home visit to ensure that your living environment is safe and suitable for the dog you're interested in adopting. This step helps us ensure the well-being of both the dog and your family.
4. Dog Adoption Agreement
If the meet and greet goes well and your home is suitable, we'll ask you to sign a Dog Adoption Agreement. This document outlines the responsibilities of both parties and serves as a commitment to providing a loving and forever home to the adopted dog.
There is a two-week cooling off period if you change your mind, or the dog is not suitable once in the home.
5. Adoption Fee
An adoption fee of $250 is payable at the time of the completion of the Dog Adoption Agreement. The adoption fee includes desexing, microchipping and a health check. If the dog has not been desexed prior to adoption, we will issue you with a voucher for use at the local veterinarian.
6. Take Your New Family Member Home
Congratulations! Once the adoption process is complete and the adoption fee is paid, you can take your new furry family member home. Our team will provide you with all the necessary information, including the transfer of registration, medical records, and tips for a smooth transition.
7. Follow-Up Support
Our commitment to you and your new dog doesn't end after adoption. We offer ongoing support and guidance to help ensure a successful transition and a lifetime of happiness for both you and your furry friend. Feel free to reach out to us with any questions or concerns you may have along the way.
PLEASE NOTE:
This Expression of Interest (EOI) is not an adoption agreement and does not guarantee the adoption of any pet from the Port Lincoln Impound Facility.
EOIs are not processed on a first-come, first-served basis; rather, they are evaluated based on the suitability for both you and the animal.
The information you provide will be utilised by the Animal Management Team to assist in the adoption process. This form must be completed prior to scheduling a Meet & Greet with an animal at the Port Lincoln Impound Facility.
